'86 5000S Brakes
Ok, I'm stumped.
'86 Audi 5000S (not turbo, not ABS, early '86) 165,000 miles
I have replaced the master brake cylinder and bled the brakes. With the car
off, the pedal is hard as a rock. Once the car is turned on, the pedal becomes
soft, and I can push down to the floor (I can feel it 'pulse' on the way
down). Actively using the pedal, I get a brake warning light (the brake and
power steering fluid are at the max lines).
I removed the return line from the hydraulic boost unit, and fluid streamed out
(Haynes says to replace unit), so I did. Upon pressing the brake pedal, I
still get fluid flowing through the return line into the power streering
reservoir.
I replaced the power steering pump 3 months ago due to some unstopping leaks
The only part of the system left is the hydraulic pressure accumulator (I don't
know the diagnostic for this piece), but what's the deal with my brakes???
They used to be so strong, now, not.
Thx for any advice....
Once we get this one, I'll move onto the HVAC mystery :-)
