syntec: 10wx30 vs. 5wx50

I use Castrol Syntec 10wx30 in my '85 4KQ and it's a MAJOR improvement over
reg. oil

Lately, however, I've noticed a great many Audi-owners using Syntec 5wx50...

Is the 5wx50 better?  I live in Boston -- Will the car run even smoother
with the50?
