Wacky electrical/Stalling? 85 Coupe GT

Don't know what's going on here.

Just got into my car and tried to get it to start, just kept turning over
and over, but wouldn't catch.

I popped the hood and checked the wires which were all tight, pulled the
throttle cable, seemed normal, wiggled the cruise control plug, and the idle
control valve.  

Turned it over again, started right up, though I think my touching of the
parts had little to do with it.

As I was driving, the car nearly stalled 5-6 times on the 6 mile drive home,
with the RPM's dropping suddenly, then the engine caught again and ran fine,
all so quick that it felt like I popped the clutch without enough fuel.  No
provoking the near stalls, happened while driving and while idling.

Had a complete stall out, turned it over and caught immediately.

Does anyone have any idea what the hell this might be?

This car is making me pull my hair out.  Little stupid problems like this
that will disappear once I bring it to my audi guys.

Any help would be appreciated.
