I don't know of any way to do it that does not include drilling
a hole. You can just drill one hole in the center and use one
of those slide hammer threaded body dent pullers to get it out
at that point. Or drill several holes across the center and
hammer a cold chisel through it and pry it out.
As to the engine rust, how about the stuff that converts rust
to black iron oxide? It looks good and will not rust easily
afterwards. I don't recall any brand names. Brookstone used
to carry it. An electroplating or chemical house may have some.
