A rebuilt pump is a bit less than the $300 if you call Shokan or one of the
other (800) parts houses.
As far as the O-rings go. I went through the same thing with my 5KS, and
eventually spoke to some people at Audi. Now I won't say for sure if they are
feeding me a line, but their comment was that the O-Rings are not the regular
rubber O-Rings that we all get at the local store. I would usually discount
this, but when I tried to do the O-Ring thing myself, I found the old, cracked
oring to have much less "sponginess" than I would have expected. I went for
the rebuilt unit 5 months ago, no problems (change the copper seal on the banjo
connections when you do it, or else they will leak too :-)
