That sinking feeling...

Haven't driven the tq for a few days, with the wife in the hospital and
wanting to do some projects on it.
Put my new wires on today, fired her up. Ran smooth then stumbled a bit
again (as usual).
Checked the oil - down 1/2 quart - hmmm. (normal color)
Checked the coolant - level fine, except oil droplets floating in the reservoir!

So - what next?
Pull plugs?
Leakdown test? Compression test?

What should I expect? Head gasket? Bad head? Supposedly this engine was
rebuilt 40K ago after a bad timing belt change.

Driving has been normal except one bad downshift with attendent over-rev a
week ago. Car still runs great. Changed plugs last month, #1 and #2 had
excessive buildup on electrodes (tri plugs), but color was right on, others
were fine. I'll drive it this afternoon and see how she feels...
