Hi Gang,
Last Saturday, in preparation for the Sunday Qnet BBQ at Lime Rock, I
used some Castrol degreaser my brother had on my pearl white wheels. Nothing
I've ever tried before, not P21, not elbow grease, nothing worked as well as
this Castrol Stuff. It came in a spraypump bottle; I just sprayed it on, gave it
a lil' brush action and washed it off. It cut all the brake dust that builds up
the the six small grooves on the 5kCSQ and CST wheels; my wheels are clean for
the first time since I've owned the car. It claims to be an alkaline detergent,
and advises not leaving it on paint for too long; so I did each wheel
separately and rinsed each wheel as soon as I was done with it. The stuff
works!!
As does the Zymol that Paul Waterloo was gratious enough to demonstrate
on the hood(bonnet) of my car at Lime Rock Sunday. The HD cleanse and wax did a
nice job, the car was already quite clean, but the part that got me was the way
the wax sheds water off paint like Rain-X sheds rain off a windshield(screen).
This stuff doesn't bead water; it repels it right off the car!! I will wait to
see if it lasts longer than Rain-X (about 2.5 weeks). Thanx Paul, the Zymol is
very nice stuff!! And thanx for organizing a great BarBie; it was great to meet
many of the folks whose words I'd only read in the past or posted to myself. A
fine bunch of people were in attendance and there were many beautiful and well
cared for Audis.
Also of some interest to those of us with turbo'd engines who have or
fear blowing up the hi-pressure bellows hose from the intercooler to the intake
plenum. Ivor Whatshisname? from TAP(all disclaimers apply here, I mean ALL) was
also at LRP showing off some very nice blue silicon rubber steel ringed bellows
hoses from the UK. I didn't ask the price as what I was really interested in
hasn't arrived from the UK yet. The same blue silicon rubber steel ringed
bellows hose but with built in "dump" valve. These hoses were "beefy"; I
talked with a fellow that bought one; he said Ivor told him it was good for
65-70 psi. What's the difference between a "dump" valve and a "pop-off" valve?
Scott, Eric...do I NEED one of these things?
Anyway, it was a great weekend; I really enjoyed meeting you folks who
were lucky enough to be at LRP on such a gorgeous day!!! And thanx again,
Paul!!
Happy motoring,
Shef
