The Maine Turnpike toll tickets were time stamped but never seemed to be
checked... I certainly turned in some "proof of crime" tickets without them
noticing... but it occurred to me what a nifty enforcement tool it would
make. Huw

This trick was also practiced by the East Germans on West German or Berlin
vehicles passing through the old corridors between, e.g., Helmstedt and
Postdam. Your transit documents were timestamped - with the mandatory East
German limits of 100kph they knew _exactly_ how long it should take.

Arrive at the other end too soon - DM400 fine. In West German currency,
naturally.

Wonderful thing, communism. Won't even accept its own money.
