Phil,

     Thanks very much for your interest and concern.  The work I was having
done on my car was not at an Audi dealership, but rather at an independent
shop.  Many other people on the list shared your concerns about replacing the
ECU.  After going back and forth with my mechanic about my sick Audi's
diagnosis, they stood by their original diagnosis even after finding a loose
connection to the ISV.  Well, the car had already spent a week at a different
shop and I just wanted it to run.  For the bargain price of $593, I got a 2
or 3 different diagnoses, a used ECU, and an oil change.  At least my car
runs better than ever.  Thanks again for the reply.
