Gasoline and Catalytic converters.

When I first arrived in Germany, I was amazed at the general level of service 
given to consumers.  The Germans speak of the "Fachman" - the expert in his 
field.  One such was the "Tankwart" - the guy who filled your tank.  These guys 
would rush to insert the filler, and then run round the car washing lights, 
screens, etc., while the pump filled the tank.

Marvellous.  I left Germany in 1985, and returned for a visit in 1986.  
Everything had changed at the gas stations - no "Tankwart", no friendly 
service, no nothing.  The only visible human being was behind hermetically 
sealed glass.

Why?  Because they _knew_ about unleaded gas.  Don't breathe it in.
