For a start, go to the ECU connector and measure to the air intake temp
sensor, water temp sensor and idle switch. Clean the contacts on the
connector. Then clean the cluster ground near the coil. Then chant 5
times, cross your fingers and try it out. Since overboost can cause this
as well, I suppose that a defective wastegate could also be the culprit.
By the way, I turned out to have the 4000 rpm problem because the
aftermarket water temp gauge was bridged to the same sensor that feeds the
ECU. Thank you, previous owner.
