Head Gasket R&R
In making my comprehensive list of parts for this upcoming grumblefest, I've
found a few questions in order.
1. I've about decided at this point to stick with the stock head bolts.
Bentley sez they may be reused. I'm inclined to replace them. Comments? Is
there anyone here who has used the Raceware Stud kit and firmly believes
that this is the only way to go? $169.00 fer 12 studs, nuts, and load
washers is a big addition to this job... (especially when I could spring fer
that adjustable timing pulley with the cash!)
2. I'm planning to replace the exhaust manifold bolts, as horrid a condition
as they look. The IPC book lists 2 sizes for the MC engine - 8 X 31 mm, 8 X
38 mm, as needed. Are they mixed? Should I just buy ten 38 mm?
3. Do any turbo gaskets (exhaust, oil) come in the head gasket set? Does
anyone have part numbers fer the inlet/outlet oil gaskets (at the turbo)? I
dodge a bullet with my last turbo swap and used old ones without a leak. I
don't expect to be so lucky this time.
4. Where do I plan to disconnect the wastegate? At the manifold, upper side
of expansion pipe, or lower side?
Thanks in advance fer any comments or advice. I'm gonna try to get my parts
order in tomorrow, Friday latest.
