Well I am sure that there are several of us V8 owners out here that
could tell you some stories about finding the surge.  And I tried for
months to solve it myself.  The O2 sensor provided some relief from the
surge, but it did not cure a more subtle surging that occurred until the
engine reached the higher RPM range as you described.  But recently I
put a chip in my car and that cured it.  Also talked to Ned at IA and he
claims his chip solves this nasty little problem.  So it may be that an
aftermarket chip might do you some good, but YMMV.
