[ 4000 rear disc brake conversion ]
The original handbrake cable fit on the rear caliper just fine. The
caliper has the return spring so the spring on the cable itself
no longer serves a purpose. I did have to make a little cable guide
to center the handbrake cable in the hole on the rear caliper where
the cable feed through. Normally, on cars with the proper disc brake
hand brake cables, the cable has a built-in guide that fits through
there, but Audi never made a FWD type 81 4000/coupe that had rear
disc brakes so such a cable is not available.
The only other fabrication I had to make for the rear disc conversion
was form a piece of hard line that ran from the flexible line at
the suspension link to the caliper, and a little bracket that held
the union between the hard line and the flexible line to the caliper.
If anyone is interested, I can take some photos of this
brake conversion and put them on my web page...
