Re: Dump valve + turbo hose

In a message dated 96-09-10 04:09:27 EDT, you write:

<< I have just blown up yet another hose @ 17psi of boost on overtaking a
3000GT. Since I am tired of spending $64 a pop on the new ones, I am
considering a dump valve, something similar to the ones used by Audi
Motorsport.>>>>> The 200t20v and the S4 use them in stock configuration,
your audi dealer should be able to get it.... Your saab dealer has the same
part much cheaper, you can go there too...

>>>>>>>> 1. My new intercooler has a third hole, which is pluged. It is about
23-25mm
in dia., located in between the inlet and the outlet. What is it for? Maybe
for a dump valve? Has anyone ever installed it there? Any good results? Does
it really afford a faster pickup on the downshift since the impeller is not
being back pressured?>>>>>>>>>>>>.... You won't notice a big difference,
but it is there.... You can use that hole, yes it can be used for the dump
valve, in fact an 85 turbo IC has the end cap with a pipe where that boss is,
excellent for dump valve location.... You do want to feed that valve back
into the inlet side of the turbo tho (see earlier post)... I saw the IC/TB
hose that Ivor sells, and he has one now with another hose coming off it for
the dump valve, looks really good.... I have inherited one of his non dump
versions, and it is not something you will blow in the next 10years IMO

 >>>>>>>>>2.If I have a dump valve installed, will I be able to replace the
@#$%&%
hose with a metal elbow, granted I will be using the rubber coupling sleeves
cut off the OEM hose to mate it to the intercooler and the throttle body,
and close this problem forever?>>>>>>>> Hmmmm, get the TAP version, it is
neater and will prolly work better

 >>>>>3. TAP is selling a rugged silicon rubber aftermarket replica of the
OEM
hose @ $115. It is blue, approx.20-25cm long, the wall must be 5-6mm thick,
reinforced with thread. It fits a number of cars if trimmed and is probably
made in GB. Ivor showed it to me @ Watkins Glen in July. Looks impressive.
Does any one have an opinion? >>>>> See above...

 >>>>>4.And lastly, why the 200TQ's 20v also blow them up, even though they
have
factory dump valve>> Two reasons: 1) it is the combination of oil in the
accordians and pressure that deteriorates the hose over time, and 2) the dump
valve from the factory may not flow enough air fast enough to take pressure
off the IC hose and IC end caps.....
