more fault codes
Hi,
I just started going thru the fault code analysis for my 1990 Coupe Quattro (20V...duh).
The check engine light comes on every once in a while and using the following
instructions, I came up with these results:
1. With the car running, insert a fuse into the fuel pump relay for about 10 seconds.
2. Pull the fuse out and get into the car to observe the flashing "check engine" light.
3. The light starts flashing in a sequence comprised of 4 numbers...it should be obvious
what 4 numbers are indicated.
4. Let this happen a few times to verify the codes being flashed.
5. Re-insert the fuse for 10 seconds or so (while the car is running) and go back to
step 2.
6. Keep repeating this until you get the code 4444. Then you can shut the engine off.
Anyhow, the codes I got were 2144 and 4431. The 2144 indicates a knock sensor is acting
up and the 4431 is the idle stabilizer valve (which I was aware of due to the symptoms
of hot start idling). I have a list for the fault codes from this car from the 'fiche.
I'm going to try a few tanks of the Highest Octane gas I can find...probably 93. I had
been running 89 for the past couple of years with no problem. Maybe I've got some water
in the tank, too.
Any ideas or comments would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
