I've replaced the rad fan three times on my high-mileage '84 4000S.
I can't tell you if the 5000 version will fit, but I can tell you that I've
usually paid those outrageous dealer prices, but not all dealers charge the
same.
I suggest you try calling Carlsen Audi in California. They have a special
discount for our mailing list and I've gotten great prices from them on
dealer-only items. They can ship quickly, too. I haven't had a fan failure
since I started dealing with Carlsen so I can't tell you their price, sorry.
