Leaky Diffs with new oil.

Noticed the same phenomena occur with other tranny's and diff's. Bumped
into a chemical applications engineer for one of the big lube companies
one time at a trade show and asked if he knew why this was. His answer
to me (I have no clue if he was BS'ing) was:

1. Additives in the oil cleaned up junk around seal/metal interface that
built up over time, this junk was helping seal, junk now gone, seal
leaks.

2. Additives in oil might be different in new oil than old, which cause
swelling and changes in seals, causing leak.

Could this also be the source of pentosin leaks in racks and pumps as
discussed earlier?
