Several people responded, for which thanks. Seems to be a feature not
documented in the A4 manual, but covered in other models' books.

You're right. If I ignore the car for a week, I have only myself to blame if
it won't listen to me.
But this raises another question. It sat for a week while I was wilderness
canoeing. I took my wife's Volvo because my A4 doesn't have a canoe rack.
The Volvo 850T uses a Thule rack with Volvo specific feet. Has anyone put
a Thule rack on an A4? Thule would be nice because I could use the same
load holding attachments.
