Others have said that this is a feature, and it sounds like
one I'd like to have... alas, I don't. My A4Q didn't come
from the factory with remote locks, my dealer said that they
could add it in when the car got here. I didn't realize until
afterwards that dealers don't add original equipment remote
locks, they use aftermarket stuff. Mine's a Clifford system.
There are plusses and minuses. My fob has one big button,
used for both unlocking and locking. Which is OK, except that
the system doesn't know whether the car is locked or not... so
if I locked it with the key, when I go to unlock the car with
the remote, nothing happens (the system tries to lock the car,
but it's already locked). Pressing a second time unlocks the
car.
There are advantages, though. I've got two small aux buttons
that I can configure to do different things; for instance,
I can add a relay and have remote control of the headlights,
or I can buy a module that connects to my garage door opener
and use my key fob in place of the opener's transmitter.
My favorite thing about the Clifford is that when you unlock
the doors, it turns on the interior lights and they remain
lit for 30 seconds, or until you start the engine. Do
factory-remote A4s do this, too?
