4000/coupe dash update shopping list
Stott,
>Alright, ya got me, what's the shopping list...
It's kinda mix-n-match, but it works. All the parts listed below are from
the 85-87 vintage 4000/4kq/coupe cars.
dashboard - either 4000 or coupe will work. big black piece, seen some
which are dark brown. Also some of these are known to get pimples.
Check around and get one without.
lower drivers side glove box - with enough searching you might even
find one with the rotory heated seat controls in it.
pass side glove box - self explanatory. And yes you can swap the
lock mechanisms so you can lock the glove box.
A-pillar plastic covers - be sure to get these from the model car they
will be installed in. See discussion on windshield angle used in the
sport q. The 4k ones don't fit in the coupe too well.
steering column plastic covers- over and under
left, right and center vent assemblies
left and right speakers - get a couple of these, not for the sound quality
but to cut up with a dremel tool and install good speakers into them. I
put the Blaupunkt 3.5s into mine and re-installed the OEM covers. Looks
stock.
speedo housing hood- be sure to get the side vent grills
speedo/tach mount assy - This is the plasic to which the speedo/tach
circuit assembly mounts to. It holds the curved piece of plastic in front
of the displays.
switch mount housing - this piece holds the switches and installs on the
front of the speedo cluster.
switches - headlight switch, dimmer pot, rear defogger, emergency
flasher, you might even find a factory fog light switch or even the dash
computer control switch. I have sniped 8in of wires which go to each
switch. I then used the switch recepticles, crimped on new blade
connectors onto my orig wiring and inserted into the switch recepticle.
Looks pretty factory. Some have just heat shrinked each connector
and slid onto the switch blades. Or you could butt splice the wires.
center console - if installing into a quattro, get the quattro center
console,
they are different, The quattro version is shorter because of the higher
center tunnel for the driveshaft.
a/c control front panel - get the panel along with the motor control knob
and the slider controls. Get the a/c on/off switch too. I also have the
rotory
blower motor switch.
lower center console panel - take your pick here, the diff lock panel with
LED bargraphs or the 3 gauge mount panel. If doing the diff locks get the
5 line vacum connector for the panel. Also get the electrical connector
which mounts to the panel
window switch panel- get the correct panel for your application, 2 switch
mounts for the coupe and 4 switch mounts for the 4 doors. Get the switches
and wiring which have the switch recepticles. The cig lighter is here, so
get
it too.
ash tray - unused ones can be found
center console trim - get the one which matches the center console you are
installing.
shift boot - same as above, the quattro version has a shorter back panel
than
the 4000/coupe one. If you look around you might even find a leather boot.
console bracket - this is mounted at the rear of the shift lever assy. It
holds
screw in clips for the center console assembly screws.
shift knob - leather ones are out there.
steering wheel - leather on the 4000q and coupes
I have also pulled the carpet set, so it matches the carpet on the center
console. The 4000q carpet drops right in the ur-q floorpan. Then you would
also want the lower front carpeted kick panels. I also installed the floor
mat
posts into my ur-q, no more floor mats jammed under the pedals.
This should be a good list to start your shopping.
