TqW cv joint boot r&r

i guess the thing has been running long enough without problems...              
while changing the oil & (bosch) filters, i noticed the telltale stripe         
of cv joint grease in the wheelwell - SH*T!                                     
right side completely split, left side already an inch.                         
i've done this pleasant job several times in other vw/audis.                    
i have found that the hardest part is removing the joint from the halfshaft.    
"tap lightly on the hub with a copper drift" - indeed - i usually end up        
closing my eyes and swinging from the heels!                                    
i like the bentley special tool for popping the ball joints ("a 1.5m pipe")     
and i finally bought a tool to press the stub axle out of the hub.              
any double-top-secret tips from the experienced before i start?
