My 84 TQC has the same 'check' and I use it to check the German speaking
computer.
1 depress the 'check' switch
2 turn on ignition switch

3 hear the computer generated voice tell you all the things that can go
wrong with you Audi (in German)

...ALL the things? Will it stop talking when the battery runs out? Does it
quote repair prices and parts numbers? Does it EVER stop talking in this
mode? Does it swear in German? Man, this I *gotta* have!
