re: snows
I strongly suggest good snow tires. I use
Pirelli'sm which handle well, but tend to go
out of round in the cold :-(
It's not a matter of forward traction in a q,
rather its a matter of braking, cornering, and
rear-end squirrelyness.
In my old 4000q, with M+S 195/60-14s, the car was
frightening on a little wet snow (better on lots of
dry snow, of course). With snows, it was great.
I'd go with 185/65-14s as you suggested. In fact,
I wish I _had_ them, rather than my 185/55-15s
(can you say "bend rims on potholes"?).
