This car is a rare breed indeed. It is essentially an Audi 4000 Quattro
cleverly disguised as a harmless station wagon. Known in Europe as the
Passat mk 2, it is of the last year of production before the arrival of
the "first" Passats in the U.S. It looks a lot cooler than the earlier
Quantums, as it has the flush Halogen headlights proper, the big bumpers,
the Audi-like black trim, and the alloy 14" rims also seen on the A1 GTI.
Unlike many water-cooled VW's in America, it is not a Puebla car. It was
manufactured in the country formerly known as West Germany in March of
'87.

The original strut inserts were replaced with Boge ProGas at 105k. I
also graced my wagon with a set of 195HR14 Pirelli P600's at 109k. Mobil
1 Synthetic motor oil and Bosch filters have been dutifully changed at
regular intervals. I have all of the service records dating back to 1991.

It carries a lot of cargo, it handles better than any wagon on Earth
(save for the Volvo T5R), and it looks pretty dern cool. It hasn't
stranded me ever, and it just returned from a trip to Colorado, where it
climbed to 12,000 feet without protest.
