NASCAR bashing (no Audi content)

Recent posts have hit a sore point with me. Sure, the jokes are
funny and given the roots of Stock Car racing, that's
     understandable. However..

It seems that some folks think it takes less skill to turn left
than to run a road course, implying that NASCAR drivers are
somehow less talented than their road racer brethren.

Well that's just not true. You mean to say that Mario Andretti -

F1 world championship w/ Lotus, or AJ Foyt - Winner at LeMans,
who BOTH came from the ovals, are not talented? Or that ex-road
racers Dorsey Schroeder (SCCA Trans-Am) and Robbie Gordon
(INDYCar) who drove NASCAR when they didn't have their regular
ride had somehow lost their senses? I don't think so.

Think of the skill (and guts) to pilot an Indy Car at 200+mph,
in traffic, for 500 miles. What is that.. an OVAL race.

As a competitive driver, I do not subscribe to the theory that
just
because the track turns a particular way, that it takes less
brain
cells to drive the car. Like the other racers on this list, I
believe that these drivers are probably good at what they do,
but no
less talented. (Todd C, Steve V.. care to comment?)

Yes I've driven on an oval, it just wasn't for me. Different
skills for
different applications I guess, but not any easier or harder.

     My $0.02 IMHO, YMMV etc.

     /J.
