Re: MO Power from 4KQ
Well Steve, how much money are you willing to part with in search of
more power?
To increase the engine's power output you must increase the amount of
air getting into the combustion chamber, along with the correct amount
of fuel, and spark.
You posted that you have a "new" motor. What was done to this motor to
increase hp's?
To get the biggest gains, you must increase the bore of the I5 non turbo
to at least 83 mm, 10.5:1, Mahle pistons. Their OE just bigger. This
basically gives you a 2.3L motor. You might want a larger stroking
crank, say 92mm.
Next get a big valve head. Audi made a OEM head with 40mm intake valves
and 34mm exaust. Have this head ported ond polished, along with the
intake and exaust manifolds. This will increase hp's by a minium of 28%.
Install a Schrick 272 assymetric cam and an adjustable cam sprocket.
All this effort is worth about 180hp on the non turbo I5. Its a nice
increase, and complements the car's "performance edge"
Alot of money for little bang! Thats why tuning the turbo's is more
marketable and larger gains are achieved with less effort.
Remember though. all this power is nice, BUT, you will start to
"stress" other parts.
Plus there's not alot of "experience" out there with the non turbo
applications.
