Re: MAC01 and MAC02

     John,
Thanks for your post on the MAC01. Do you think Ned would be willing to
divulge the differences? Personally I don't think so, particularly if your
MAC01 is working better than his modified MAC02!

I don't have a problem with this at all and Ned provides a very good
service for some people... but for others (like me, RDH, etc.) who would
prefer to modify the ECU and/or the EPROM code themselves it would be great
information to have. To understand exactly how Audi detuned the North
American cars by 40 horses would be VERY interesting. I know the engines
themselves differ, but I think the biggest fundamental differences are in
the operation of the MAC01 versus MAC02, probably the timing versus boost
maps, over boost maps and the O2 sensor feedback?

If any one out there has a MAC01 that they would be willing to lend me, so
I can read the EPROM code I would be quite happy to pay for their
inconvenience and post the differences between the MAC01 and MAC02 to the
list? Or if anyone has a "toasted" MAC01 they would like to sell please
contact me (hey Murphy, what's the chances it would be the EPROM!).

Where are all the British and German engineers with ur-q's and what's the
current cost in Europe of a replacement MAC01?

     Regards, Mike

p.s. I'm sure I saw a 4 door 4000 turbo quattro with flared wheel arches
and 6" Ronals down at the local pub last night. Which years were they
imported to Canada and would this still be called an ur-q?
