Mac01 vs Mac 02. and mystery IC's.
I would also be very interested to see this comparison, but in addition I
would be interested to see a comparison of the electronic hardware of the
two. In particular the MAC 02 has a hybrid circuit on a ceramic substrate
which contains a surface mount IC made by Hitachi. The module is labeled IC9
on my MAC02. I spent quite some time trying to find out about this IC two
years ago and got no where. Hitachi sources that I was able to contact claim
they never made it. I understand that others met with the same wall, but
since some time has passed, I wonder if anyone now has this info?
Perhaps the Mac01 may have implemented this circuit function differently.
In my Mac02 Audi added a little circuit board, which prevents ignition
trigger unless the distributor is properly aligned with the crankshaft. As I
recall, it only allows the ignition to fire for a few seconds if the timing
is off.
I wonder if this exists in the MAC 01?
If not it would be worth retrofitting. I believe this circuit prevented a lot
of damage when my ECU went wacko a few years ago!
