Darned Dipstick

Seems the the old oil dipstick "collar" has broken clean in two!  I know
this was discussed a few weeks back - BUT I don't think this particular
question was addressed.

If I were going to replace it (praying that it's not one of those $50 pieces
of plastic!) how do I get the old piece off of the metal tube?  It doesn't
seem to have threads so I assume it is glued on. Or is this gonna be on of
those deals where I hace to replace the entire thing from the dipstick down
to the oil pan and maybe even the whole engine just for a $2 piece of orange
plastic?
