S4/S6 Xenon lights

I think it was Eric Fletcher who asked about the possibility of replacing S4/S6
lights with the Xenon versions:

I looked at the possibility when I was in Germany. Besides the horrendous costs
of the lamp units, you have to add exciters, and the car also came with a
different alternator.

So I went with the Euro spec A6 lights, 100/130W lamps and a full relay spec.
They are almost as good as the mid 80s Euro spec Golf GTi with the 8" main
beams. Bright, focussed, good cut off, and they run cool. The whole deal cost
$1000 which for me was value as the alternative was changing the car. I already
have custom fitted Hella supplemental dipped beams, but still could not get the
dipped spread from 10 yds to 75 yds that I wanted. The Euros fixed that.
