Re: 4kq Ride Height

I will be replacing the struts in the rear soon, and I am trying to
figure out if new springs are in order. With 195/60-14 on stock rims (and
springs), the height from the ground to the top of the rear wheel arches is
23 1/8" both sides. The fronts are more like 24 1/8".

I would appreciate any comments and insite. I believe that new strut
inserts will probably raise the rear of the car a bit, but I am looking
to see if I am in the ball park.

Mason,

New struts will not raise the car. They provide stability, to keep the tires
on the surface of the road. The springs and frame of the car determine ride
height. The wheel wells are not a good place to measure as their spacing is
asethetic. A better place is at certain frame points, and then go with what
is in the factory specs. Mr. Bentley has let me down in this area, however
any good alignment shop has a book with the specific points and values. For
what it is worth, my 85 4ksq is about 1/2 inch higher than yours at all four
fender wells, or sounds as though yours is OK.
