better 5k headlights, help

One light is terribly mis-aimed on the '86 tq I am "reconstituting", and I
can see from the remaining "dim pool of light out there", that the
illumination is about like that from the high beams on the '46 droF coupe we
had once. Light from a candle in a can on a moonless evening is similar.
All of my other vehicles are "light years" ahead of the Audi (except the
Super M Farmall, and its pattern is only slightly worse).

I loved the sharp cut-off and spread of the lights on my '92 droccA, but
alas, it died at the hands of my 17yr old the other day. He survived, it
didn't. Anyway, brighter light would be good, but extra wattage alone isn't
enough. I don't like the looks of auxiliary lights much, and they look hard
to mount on this car except too high or too low. I recall list discussion on
swapping to European lights on other models, but not too much on 5k's. Would
lights from 5000's over there be direct bolt-ins and are they better enough
to warrant doing it? So I search the archives, and here is what I find:

Al Powell once said "we determined that the headlight/parking light/grille
openings on the mid-80's thru 1990 5K/100/200 cars are absolutely
identical!", but without mention of the Euro lights.

Dave Head remarked "This also means the older 4 headlamp setup will bolt in.
This would be the cheap lighting upgrade..." I don't know where his pictures
ended up (website??), it's worth a look. I kinda like the aero lights
though, unless there's no other economical way to get better illumination.

John Karasaki found that "The 5000s European headlight lenses are replaceable
and go for about $65 each..." Do any of you know if the lens' alone can be
used with the US headlight units to give an improvement? (For reference, he
also gave the pn's for the euro lights he had, which may be useful): Left
headlight carrier:1 305 235 071 L, lens:301-131 955 (bosch asmbly 0301 086 111)
Right carrier:1 305 235 072 L, lens:1 305 620 525 (bosch asmbly 0301 086 112)
(Or from Dave H. at an earlier time (and certainly from a different boneyard):
Left:1 305 620 581 Right: 1 305 620 582)).

Joe Yakubik was thinking about swapping turn signals and parking light
locations and installing some JCW "funky lights". Something that doesn't
spoil the look of the front end appeals to me. Anyone go further with this
approach to more serious lighting for the 5k's?

Tom Nas had tried: "...I've called all specialised VW-Audi or German cars'
yards in Holland, but no luck!" So the Apeldoorn area of Netherlands seems
bare. Others have tried this route too, who has been lucky, what have
you found?

Are there list members in Europe that could try to spot a couple of sets at
their local dismantlers for me? I'd be willing to contact the yard directly
and have them shipped, or I could have my brother get them if somewhere close
to Brussels or Stuttgart. Send email direct if you would consider helping me
out with this. Anybody else have suggestions?
