RE: Pikes Peak/Mt. Washington Hillclimb oldest?
Phil is right, I should have added in the USA.
Glen, You and Trish may be right too. I was only reporting what the Pikes
Peak Hill Climb folks claim. My opinion is that the first motor sports race
occurred when the first two automobiles met on some dusty trail.
But hey, this started as a Michelle Mouton post noting her achievement
driving a quattro up the big hill in record time. (beating Unser's quattro
time the previous year) - I live 30 mi. from there and missed both of them
ppihc references the Indy 500 as the oldest motorsports race.
<snip>
Yep. In the USA. Dunno what the oldest still-run race in urrup is. Anyone know?
I'm a BIG Michelle fan also. Wasn't it one of her wins at PP over Bobby Unser that pissed him of so bad that he want out and bought a QUATTRO to take the open-class PP title back again in a QUATTRO the following year? I seem to remember a piece on one of the 'Secrets of Speed' quattro videos about this.....
