Re: Is the Porsche 924 really an Audi? (some Audi content!)

The 924 was developed along the lines of the 914. Entry level for
Porsche, upscale for VW. To make costs lower, the parts bin was raided
from VW-Audi.
As noted, the engine was from VW-Audi.
The transaxle was Audi. As a result of the tranny in the rear, the
weight dist. f-r was excellent.
Front suspension was Golf (Rabbit), Rear was Beetle.
I think inital production was at the old NSU Neckarsulm plant. I also
believe the 944 production was moved to the Ingolstadt plant alongside
Audis.

Now the Chrysler 4 cyl... VW and Chrysler were pretty close to a merger
of sorts in the mid 80s. Part of Lee's world order I suppose. I read
somewhere that Chrysler bought blocks from VW for the Horizon, a copy of
the Rabit if I ever saw it.
