Wrong.  There was a fire, it did result from ruptured fuel lines, but the
fuel shut-off valves worked as they are supposed to.  The fire
self-extinguished - that is, it ran out of fuel, of its own accord.  Still
not a pretty sight, but the danger was slight, given that there was not a
continuous supply of fuel.  All documented in the "auto, motor, und sport"
article.

The A3s produced up to that time were recalled and fitted with a revised
engine mount to provide a blunt surface where the previous corner had severed
the line.
