Old Laws, Nebraska, & Laser

Hi Folks,

Couple things come to mind on the NH "under 20" rule. This seems a
little rough...especially since a young driver is much more apt to get
stopped just for doing something stupid (unintentionally)....hell, I ran
through a red light my first night out.
I definately side with the positive reinforcement aspects.
In Nebraska, where I have 4 nieces and nephews aged 14-18, they have a
policy which I believe goes something like this:
Once every 2 years you have the option of taking (and paying the $40
for) a driving class of some sort. If you do this, the ticket is
wiped...and so is the insurance penalty. My 17 year old nephew opted for
this after being tailed and tagged. He learned his lesson, lost $40, and
might have learned something to boot. Also, a lot of cops just figure
kids are suspect. My 18 year old nephew was stopped in Lincoln, NE. His
offense:
HE WAS VERBALLY WARNED FOR DRIVING TOO CLOSE TO THE
  YELLOW LINE.........very nice indeed!

On the laser tag stationary posts. It seems to me that I heard some
time ago that one state threw this sort of thing out because most traffic
violations are misdemeanors (sp?) and that misty-meaners have to be
actually witnessed by a real human being in that state. For the same
reason, it was said that they couldn't issue tickets based upon the time
stamps at toll booths. Does this ring a bell with anyone?
