Tires, speed traps and random thoughts

Hey all,
Regarding snow tires for the A4: if you are anywhere that wet heavy snow is
commonplace, you should seriously consider snows. The RS-A's are just not
very good with lateral adhesion and are quite bad in stopping. The quattro
will give you a false sense of security, in that you will be able to get
moving easily. However, in an unscientific test, it took me half a city block
to stop from 30mph. Snows more than halved that distance. YMMV.
As far as that thread about the radar guns on I-95 in CT, I read on a list
(either this one or a motorcycling one) that the guns are set up for, and are
only capable of monitoring traffic flow. They are not able to pick out
individual vehicles. This was from a guy who helped set up the system.
Finally, I noticed an ad in EC from Extrude Honed about porting and gas
flowing heads and intakes. Does anyone have any experience or thought about
performance gains from this?
Finally, I have found a road here in the San Diego area that makes VT 17 look
like an interstate. The nine mile climb to the top of Palomar Mountain is
pretty impressive. It is also squid central. All sorts of sport bikers flying
through and several cars and bikes ignoring the center line. When the posted
corner speed is 20mph, they mean it. That's all for now.
