RE: VACUUM LEAK,K&N FILTER

1: Fix the caps lock.
2:welcome to the list.
3: I think I heard that it should not run without the cap.
4:Lifters are probably not the problem. The vacuum pump is probably the first
thing I would check. Even if the lifters were clacking it would have to be
really loud before it is doing any damage.
5:The K&N did very little on my car. I noticed a slight increase in mid-range
power but I think the 2 1/2" exhaust already took care of most of what the K&N
provides.
6: Have you advanced the timing yet. If not DO IT NOW.

HEY THERE
THIS IS MY FIRST TIME WRITING IN, THIS DIGEST IS GREAT. I'M TYPING IN
CAPITALS CAUSE MY CAPSLOCK IS STUCK. NYWAYS, IN REGARDS TO THE VACUUM LEAK. I
HAVE A 4000S,5 CYL, 1984. THE CAR, AUDRE, IS IN BRAND NEW CONDITION WITH
90,000 MILES ON IT. WITHOUT THE OIL FILLER CAP, IT STUMBLES SLIGHTLY, DOES
THIS MEAN I STILL HAVE A VACUUM LEAK. YESTERDAY, IT MADE NO DIFFERENCE, I
MADE SURE EVERYTHING WAS CONNECTED PROPERLY, AND NOW IT STUMBLES. ALSO FOR THE
PAST HALF YEAR, THE CAR GIVES ME APPROX. 400 KM PER TANK (60 LITRES, CITY).
COULD THIS BE DUE TO THE VACUUM LEAK.I AM ALSO LOOKING FOR ANY SIMPLE (AND
CHEAP) POWER GAINS.JUST RECENTLY
I CUT OFF THE EXAUST (CAT AND ALL), REPLACED IT WITH 2 1/4' PIPE AND A GLASS
PACKED MUFFLER ON THE END. MADE A BIG DIFFERENCE ON THE HIGHWAY.
YESTERDAY, I PICKED UP A K&N FILTER AND INSTALLED. IT MADE NO DIFFERENCE.(I
DONT UNDERSTAND!)
TO FINISH, I AM WONDERING, WHATS THE FINAL WORD ON NOISEY LIFTERS, MINE ARENT
TOO BAD, IT GOES AWAY AFTER AWHILE. I HAVE TRIED DIFFERENT OIL
VISCOSITIES, IT HELPS FOR AWHILE, BUT NOT THE SOLUTION.
