I wouldn't.  WD40 is oil, and *as we all know*, oil and rubber don't mix.
Worse, it is a liquid, so it will just sit on the hose eating it away.

WD40 is a fine product made in my hometown, but it's not good for everything.

On noble gasses -- I would expect that they would slow the engine a bit,
as the engine would start sucking a noncombustible gas through the leak
rather than air, which I think is about 23% O2 (maybe 27%? I forget).
However, it's probably too subtle to be useful.
