You've got to look at the conversion file in /usr/lib/units
to understand this.  First, nm isn't a newton-meter to "units";
it's a nanometer.  Need to use nt.  Second, a pound (lb) is
a unit of mass, not force... to get force, need to specify
lbf.  So specify nt-m for newton-meter, and ft-lbf, and
it works.
