Hmmm, On 8V 4 cylinder VW motors (knock sensor, 85 - 87) a few HP were 
had by bumping the distributor timeing from 6 to 12 degrees (92 octane 
required). It has been proven on the dyno. 

I'm sure that your 85 coupe has an almost identical setup + one cylinder. 
Try it, just listen for knock!
