Final Kanc. Letter

Good Morning Folks,

As much as I hate to say it...all indicators are that Saturday is going
to be a complete
washout...windy, rainy, just plain nasty...true not all forecasts are
reliable, but this looks like a
very safe bet. While driving in the rain is not an issue for 7 of us
(myself included) it kind of takes
a lot of the other fun away...pictures, best scenery, etc. Forecasters
are calling for some drizzly rain earlier in the day on Sunday...but then
clearing....who knows. I am not the founder or organizer of this event,
just someone who is taking care of garnering the opinions of the people
that were interested. I've decided for myself that I will go on Sunday
and that I hope as many people as possible will come...and it would seem
that that is the best day for most in consideration of the
weather....I've driven the Kanc. a hundred times..and I've got to tell
you its just about 500% nicer when the weather cooperates...even if its
drizzly Sunday AM.
If I don't see you on Sunday morning...we'll catch you next time.
Addresses are included if the Saturday folks still want to get together.
I will make sure that someone has maps of the route (maybe me) on Sunday
morning. We will not leave the liquor store until 10:00AM if there are
stagglers (please plan on arriving by 9:30)....and I will check the McD's
in Lincoln, NH (Route 112 Kanc entrance) for stragglers...otherwise,
catch up with us at some stop along the Kanc.....gee, how will you find
us?
????? Mail to me....This will be the last post to the "Q" list

Also: does someone have an answer for my tire question that just posted?

Good Luck and Have a Great Weekend Whatever You Do!!

       Paul

I have something else to add: it seems at this point that this event
is
about as fixed as a wedding date. this date was chosen based on best
times
of those interested. i've planned for this and can't make any other
date
before nov 9. the idea was for a fun run through some twisties,
leaf-peeping, food, and q-cameraderie. since the bbq is out anyway,
and
the leaves are mostly kaput up there, the only difference will be a
few mph
less through the twisties (we all have qs with A traction tires, right
;-).
i say run as planned and let individuals bail if they don't like the
   weather/date/etc.

IMPORTANT NOTES: there will be a huge police presence at the tollbooth
on 93.
After the accident a couple of days ago, you can bet there will be
speed traps, and lots of cruisers all around the area.....

Proposed Run:

October 19th...... Meeting Time 9:00-9:45 AM ... Depart Time:
9:45-10:00 AM
Meet at NH state liquor store (rest area) I-93 just north of Manchester
(just North of the Hooksett tolls, between Hooksett and Concord)
Mike says: "I will have map handouts ready for the morn departure (as
detailed as I can get)"
I say: "See me for your copy of "European Car's" January '92 article
on complete
history of Audi..."The Nine Lives of
Audi" by David McFarlane and a copy
of an old National Lampoon Audi parody advertisement"

Head North on I-93 towards Kancamangus

Re-group at "The Golden Parabolas" just off I-93 in Lincoln (start of
Kanc) OR
Mike says: "A good little Italian place in Lincoln where it would be
hard to spend $5@ for great chow"
I say: "Mike, if this is the place I'm thinking of, we could grab some
chow to go and eat
at one of the scenic spots on the Kanc"

Mike also says: "Time outs at the overlooks are a must for never evers
and more photo Ops! I'll bring

    the official camera"
I would agree, as I believe most would

  Other Itinerary with suggested stops:

(Stop at Swift River Gorge...a must for never evers")
Kancamangus to Bear Crotch Road North
Bear Crotch Road North to 302 East
302 East to West Side Road
West Side Road to Cathedral Ledge Look Out (Stop)
Cathedral Ledge Look Out to 16 South to Conway

Mike says: Alternately I think Attitash will have lifts open to the
top, Maybe a free
period of time is in order with
a regrouping later for return?

Conway to Wakefield (Sanbornville) NH on Route 153

(NOTE BENE: For those of you unfamiliar with the Kanc, there is a
hairpin
turn which is just that..something to keep in mind..also...this is
still the
edge of retiree and foreign tourist season..caution is
advised....153 is a great
road but has a few surprises...I'll try and let you in on
them...for instance,
a full 90 degree, tight right hander that is often sandy
and dangerous)

(We, or some, may want to go a mile south of 153 and pick up the Kanc
either for
return to the west side or to finish the five miles or so towards
Bear Crotch Road...
scenic here are nice and you might not want to miss...got a picture
of your Audi
    on a covered bridge?....Blackberry Crossing)

Late Lunch, early dinner at Poor People's Pub Sanbornville, NH
(cheap, lots of room, kind of a fun place)

Mike also says: Too much to do and so little time, but I think all will
have fun and lay
                                                 a great ground work for
future events.
                                                 PS Since bears can be
crotchity this time of year, I'll take Bear Notch
                                                 over Bear crotch!

    Take Care,
     Drive Safe,
