90 Quattro tranny in a 4kq?

     I am in process of installing a 5kt engine in my 1984 4k 
quattro.  The next modification on the list is installment of a 1988 
90 Quattro tranny.  It is a completely different disign with a torsen 
center diff which is the reason for this conversion (I really hate 
the lockable one).  I also know that the shift mechanism is different 
as is the driveshaft (longer).  The driveshaft does not worry me as 
much as the shift mechanizm.  Has anyone else performed such a swap?  
It looks to me that the shift mechanism principle is simular to the 
fwd 4000 and coupe where the shift mechanism pivots above the shift 
rod unlike the 4000 quattro where it pivots below the shift rod.  Any 
help on the subject is greatly appriciated.
