New radar detector/scrambler on the market

FYI... I found this in a newsgroup.....

Hmm.... could it be better than a Valentine 1? At least price-wise, they are
competitive!!

EL PASO, Texas--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Oct. 16, 1996--Who knows what
squad cars lurk around the next corner?
The Phantom(TM) knows! This wallet-sized product from Rocky
Mountain Radar is the first device to combine a radar detector and a
laser/radar scrambler in a single compact unit. It offers
state-of-the-art radar detection against X, K, Ka (superwide) and
instant-on radar guns PLUS the ability to render vehicles
electronically invisible to waiting squad cars through a passive
jamming technology that is perfectly legal.
As a bonus, the company guarantees to pay the fine if a driver
using the Phantom gets a speeding ticket.

Scrambling Police Signals

The Phantom's scrambler does exactly what its name implies: it
scrambles any signal it receives. When it receives a radar signal,
the unit mixes it with an FM chirp and bounces it back at the squad
car via a waveguide antenna, effectively confusing the computer
inside the radar gun. It always transmits an infrared beam that has
the same effect on laser Lidar units. As a result, a car protected
with the Phantom is invisible to police equipment.
A custom integrated circuit provides complete coverage over the
entire Doppler range, preventing telltale "holes" that will cause a
vehicle to show up on police equipment at certain speeds. The
scrambler has a 2-to-3-mile range that gives you time to moderate
your speed before you hit the 100-foot danger zone where your vehicle
may become visible.
For peace of mind, the Phantom also features multiple diagnostic
systems that enable the driver to confirm the scrambler is doing its
work. A built-in tester inside the circuit shuts off the power light
if the unit is not working, and consumers can also conduct a manual
check by pressing a test button that makes the FM chirp audible via
speaker.

High Performance Radar Detector

The Phantom's radar detector protects drivers over a 4-mile
range with advanced features that include a Mute Switch that turns
off the speaker when the driver encounters radar; a City Switch that
reduces the detector's sensitivity to prevent easy activation by
automatic door openers and other interference; a Dark Mode that
allows the driver to hear the speaker without irritating flashing
lights at night; and a VG-2 Circuit that acts as a shield against
police radar detector detectors.
It also includes a different alarm for each band, variable alarm
that indicates range and a test button to ascertain that all circuits
are functioning properly.

Simple Installation

The Phantom is easy to install and comes with a windshield mount,
power-cord and velcro. The unit works off the car's cigarette
lighter.

Three-Year Warranty and Ticket Rebate

The Phantom is guaranteed against defects in workmanship and
materials for 36 months. The unit also comes with an exclusive one-
year ticket rebate program that will reimburse the customer for the
cost of a speeding fine if it is no more than 30 percent or 15 mph
over the speed limit. The rebate does not extend to more flagrant
speeders because officers are likely to detect such violations by
sight, whether they get a radar reading or not.

Pricing, Ordering

The Phantom sells for $349.95 and is available from fine
electronic stores, catalogs, or directly from Rocky Mountain Radar at
915/587-0307.
