Post Reply Length, How to Deal with Thread Inclusion?

I sympathize with your pain downloading a digest with most un-necessary,
but I find it an equal pain reading a reply like "Mine, too" with an
enticing subject line like "20v Coupe quattro turbo upgrade", or some
such, with no idea what the poster is talking about. I got off the
digest because I found it less useful to me than individual posts with
threads. Exchange (and others) can display messages in a threaded
manner, digests won't work in this mode. There must be some happy
medium, like I am more careful with the "reply to all" button, and those
who trim too much think about how cryptic the message they're about to
