Brian, it does indeed sound like a wiring problem, my bet goes with the rear
wiring harness in the trunk as it passes by the left hinge. Check there for
shorts, frays etc.

All of the 4000q ECU's are the same, so swapping out won't help you
power-wise. More power doesn't come quite as cheaply on the 4000q's. Can't
help much on the bars either, as aftermarket or custom is prolly your best
bet. I'd research that a bit before the go-ahead, as the 4000q have decent
bars right off the shelf.
