Chris:
I aasume static really means electrical noise pick up by the radio.....
Normally there are two major sources of electrical produced noise...
1.- Spark produced noise (usually high voltage) received by the or through the
antenna system... or
2.- Spark noise reflected in the readio supply voltage (12v) and not dissipated by
the battery (low impedance) due to a high resistance point somewhere in the circuit.
Recommend:
Clean battery terminals and battery ground connections up to the front part (engine
compartment) of your car.
Clean or replace distributor rotor and/or cap...check cleanliness and contact of
high voltage wire from coil to distributor cap.
finally check ground ciscuit to radio wuth special attention to a clean ground
connection at the antenna input connector at the radio. Suggest an alligator
connector to ground from the radio chassis to a good known electrical ground, if the
"ideling" noise dissapears you have got a grounding (probably rusted) problem.
Gud lock (good luck !)
