QList Netiquette?
My vote is to allow *any* responsible non-commercial Audi-related noise
on the qlist. Things that are of interest to specific individuals should
be transacted via private email between those interested. I am
completely in favor of notification of things via qlist posting, then
those interested can pursue them privately. My take on Dan's new policy
is this is the way it should be. Good job (once more), Dan. When we
start wasting bandwidth, we've been pretty effective at
self-enforcement, with Dan keeping an eye on us kids. Woe be to the
chucklehead who tries to sell us something.
Cases in point:
IMHO, appropriate uses of the list:
-QCUSA bitch session stayed on the list, cause we couldn't get good info
from them. It went on and on, but I followed it, evaluating whether or
not (NOT, joined the UK one) to join.
-Kanc run was proposed on the qlist, subsequent communications were
mostly done privately.
-NASCAR WOB was public, should stay that way (it was of general
(dis)-interest. It was a WOB, and got stopped, slowly, by general
consent).
-Calendar notification was on the qlist, then taken to private email.
-Peter Wales gets wrongly (IMVHO) flamed when he answers a specific
query with good info that just so happens to include "Here's how I've
done it with my products" as illustration. He's not spamming us with
ads, mostly answering specific queries.
-Jacket notification was on the qlist.
IMVHO, list could have been spared some WOB:
-Kanc run updates leaking (prolly from me by mistake, damn keyboard
slipped again) onto the qlist.
-Jacket updates *should* have been taken to private email.
-Spam from Russia got plenty of "go aways" from the listers.
-TAP getting slammed second-hand. Specifics are OK, but no hearsay.
I think as long as we pay attention to wasting bandwidth, and infringing
on the non-commercial nature of the qlist, we should be fine. It's a big
world out there, let's stay together on this list.
