How do your switches work?
Audi electrical trivia. Two of my multicontact switches are misbehaving
and I want to be sure about how they're supposed to work. It's an
'86 Coupe GT.
1. Ignition switch
I would really like my (non-OEM) stereo to turn on when I insert a key.
Leaving it powered constantly is unfortunately not an option because
Blaupunkt designed in a constantly-illuminated clock. However, Audi
included a key-sensing contact that should be perfect for this.
Mine doesn't seem to work. I think what it is supposed to do is provide
continuity between the 30 and S terminals when you insert the key.
I ca'n't seem to get continuity between those terminals with or without
a key in any switch position, testing with the harness disconnected.
But the rest of the switch works perfectly.
Am I right about how it is supposed to work? Any ideas about how to
fix it?
Relevant Bentley: fig. 6, page 94.8; and current track 107.
Oh, there's also a "P" terminal that does nothing and connects to nowhere.
I don't get it.
2. Wiper switch
I think I should be getting continuity between the 53a terminal (switched
power from load-reduction bus) and the L terminal when I pull back on
the stalk. I don't. All other terminals seem to work fine, notably
the T terminal that controls the front spray jets via pulling the stalk.
It seems that L should be active whenever T is; could I just splice
them together? And is it really true that the only purpose of the rear
wiper is to wash the rear window?
Relevant Bentley: fig. 8, page 94.9; and current tracks 206-209.
There is an error on that page; track 208 links to 57 but should link
to 125 instead.
Thanks for any help.
